Prince's Own Artillery Corps

A royal artillery corps under King David Kalākaua.

King David Kalākaua established the Prince's Own Artillery Corps in 1874 as one of five companies of the Hawaiian Army. The corps represented a sophisticated, professionally organized military unit befitting the Hawaiian Kingdom's standing as a recognized sovereign nation.

Command

Commanded by Curtis P. Iaukea and James Harbottle Boyd, the corps was led by officers who blended Hawaiian and western military traditions.

End of Service

The corps served with distinction until the Bayonet Constitution reorganization of 1889, which fundamentally restructured Hawaiian governance and its military forces.
